Case Study – Can I Save a failing niche blog – part 1

    Part 1 – July 2021

I have an 11 month old niche blog that’s seriously behind in pageviews and earnings. Here I am going to investigate why it’s failing and see if I can save it.

I’ll have monthly updates that you can follow to see if I can get the nose to turn up.

    Let’s start at the beginning.

Why is this niche blog failing?

It’s all my fault. I did not follow the golden rule – which is: Content, content, content.

I needed to post at least 10 articles per month, what did I do?

In the first 3 months I managed to publish a total of 11 posts. The next 3 months I posted a total of 2 articles. Then it gets worse, the next 5 months I managed to post a grand total of nada. Yes, nothing.

In month 11 of this blogs life it only had a total of 13 articles posted in total.

So obviously you can see why I say it’s totally my fault that this blog is going nowhere.

(I am sure no one wants to hear my excuses, but I did move in January 2021 and I opened a daycare center with a partner in February 2021. It was pretty much all hands on deck there for the 2 of us, until we started to grow and could hire 2 teachers. I now have a little bit more time to focus on other projects again.)

In July 2021 suddenly remembered, hey, I have a blog I abandoned.

Now I’m going to make some plans to see if I can turn this ship around.

    My case study site

My case study site is in the pet niche and very specific.

The site’s name is: Guinea Pals and it’s all about guinea pigs.

Let’s see where the page views and earnings are at:

This is my Google Analytics for August 2020 to July 2021. As you can see not impressive at all. My 13 articles managed to get a few page views and pretty much just stayed in the same region. No hockey stick growth, that we are all looking for.

January to April impressions were all under 500 with no link clicks.

May was the first month my impressions were 1200 and I got a single click to my site.

June saw just over 2000 impressions with 3 clicks.

As you can see around May 2021 my impressions started to pick up a little, but still nothing to write home about.

    July 2021

Ok now that we’ve established that this site is not doing good at all, it’s time to make a plan and do something about it.

In July I managed to add 6 new articles, which will take months to start to rank on Google. Still not where I want to be, but it’s a start. I would just have to keep consistently adding content.

July was just under 2000 impressions with 5 clicks.

Page views were holding steady at only 220.

    Income

I managed to get onto the Ezoic – just start program, so I placed ads on the site almost from the beginning in month 3.

Since the blogs traffic is doing so bad, I can’t expect to make anything from it. I just wanted to be totally transparent and show you everything about this blog, the good, the bad and the ugly.

In July the blog only made a total of $ 0.21 cents.

My plan to save this blog

    Content

The main way that I’m going to try and save this site is to add more content. I have to add at least 10 articles per month.

    Interlinking

I am going to go through the articles to see where I can link to a similar article, to keep people on the blog a little longer.

If you want to check out the site and have some ideas on how I can save it, please let me know.
